Google Penguin Update 3 Rolled on Oct 5th 2012 – 0.3% Queries Effected

Google Matt Cutts announced on twitter that google launching the latest “data refresh” of its Penguin Spam-Fighting algorithm on 5th October 2012 and that its effect searches across multiple languages. Including the original Penguin algorithms launch late April, this is the 3rd update, where calling it Penguin 3 and avoid the previous 1.1,1.2 etc..  Naming scheme, as we have done with the panda update.

Here the list so far, showing when each Penguin updates come exposed the percentage of English-languages queries it was said to the impact(Other languages are also impacted, but where using English as consistent baseline;

• Penguin 1: April 24, 2012 (3.1%)
• Penguin 2: May 26, 2012 (less than 0.1%)

On April 24th 2012 Matt Cutts, the head of the webspam team at Google declare that there will be one more algorithm change to the Google search engine.

This latest update has been named “Penguin” and the main objective of the change is to specifically target webspam.

To quote Matt’s words:

“The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines. We’ve always targeted webspam in our rankings, and this algorithm represents another improvement in our efforts to reduce webspam and promote high quality content.”
